June 30th through July 6th, 2008

June 30th, 2008:

A Barry Street resident reported theft of a yellow Mongoose BMX Style bicycle from the front yard of his house between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. this date.

July 1st, 2008:

A Willowbrooke Drive resident reported theft of bicycle parts, including a seat, tire with rim, and handle bars, from a NeXT bicycle left in the bike rack between the 29th and 1st.

July 2nd, 2008:

A Park Avenue business reported damage done to a chain link fence, and theft of gasoline from an outbuilding, sometime between June 28th and 29th.

July 3rd, 2008:

A Holley Street resident reported theft of a Schwinn 10 speed bicycle at about 9:15 am.  A suspect was found near the scene by responding police and arrested.  John Saager, 45 years old of 138 Viking Way, Apt. B6, was charged with Petit Larceny, a Misdemeanor, and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Sweden Town Court.

Brockport Police joined with representatives from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, and New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Main Street between 10 p.m. and 4 am. Thursday night.  This was part of a countywide effort to educate the public about the dangers of impaired driving, especially during the Independence Day holiday period.  Statistically, the 4th of July week is one of the most deadly periods of the year for DWI crashes. 

Police made numerous arrests for traffic and other offenses, including several arrests for possession of marijuana, suspended registration, and three arrests for impaired driving charges, including:

Shaun M. Cobb, 22 years old of 75 Sandybrook Dr., Hamlin, charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

Steven J. Partyka, 22 years old of 1420 County Line Rd., Kendall, charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Matthew J. Whiting, 26 years old of 16435 W. Ridge Rd., Holley, charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Registration.

July 5th, 2008:

The Brockport Welcome Center reported theft of two bicycles donated to the Free Ride Program by two unidentified youths.

An arson fire was discovered by Brockport Fire Department Deputy Chief Scott Smith inside the former Kleen Brite Labs facility on State Street at about 8 p.m.  A small pile of debris had been set fire inside the factory floor.  The Monroe County Fire Bureau is assisting in the investigation.

 

The Brockport Police responded to 273 calls for service between June 30th and July 6th, 2008, 8422 calls to date.

 

June 7th through July 13th, 2008

July 7th, 2008:

A Fair Street resident reported theft of a BMX-style bicycle by a known juvenile subject.  The bicycle was recovered, and the case was referred to Juvenile Probation.

An Erie Street resident reported theft of a Debit/ATM card, and a quantity of cash, by a known suspect.  The cash and card were recovered by police, and the victim declined prosecution.

Police arrested Murrlene D. Grabar, 35 years old of 2485 Harindale Rd., Henry, Tenn., on charges of Petit Larceny, a Misdemeanor, following a report of theft from a High Street residence.  Grabar was arraigned in the Sweden Town Court and released on her own recognizance.

July 11th, 2008:

A Presidents' Village Apartments resident (West Avenue) reported burglary and theft occurring sometime between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., wherein a digital camera was stolen.

July 13th, 2008:

A Utica Street resident reported theft of two plastic chairs from the deck sometime overnight.

 

The Brockport Police responded to 248 calls for service between July 7th and July 13th, 2008, 8670 calls to date.

JuLY 14th through August 3rd, 2008

July 14th, 2008:

Police arrested Charlena C. Turner, 16 years old of 8107 West Ridge Rd., Clarkson, on charges of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 4th Degree, a Felony, and Resisting Arrest, a Misdemeanor, and arrested Evan A. Flores, 16 years old of 1430 Lake Ave., Rochester, on charges of Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration, 2nd Degree, both Misdemeanor offenses, after police attempted to serve a warrant on Turner on Sweden Lane near Lake Road.  The arrest of Turner concludes the investigation of a burglary from a King Street residence that occurred in May.  Flores attempted to block police from pursuing Turner, and aided Turner in her attempt to flee from police.  Both subjects were arraigned in the Sweden Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of bail.

July 17th, 2008:

The Kwik Fill station on North Main Street reported theft of $40 worth of gasoline by a white male subject driving a brown Acura.

Police arrested Cherrelle L. Grace, 22 years old of 18 N. Main St., Apt. 18, Brockport, on charges of Petit Larceny, a Misdemeanor, following theft of a bicycle from a King Street residence.  Grace was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Sweden Town Court.

July 19th, 2008:

A Spring Street resident reported damage done to a vehicle window while parked in the driveway between 12:30 am. and 2:50 am.

A Utica Street resident reported theft of a bicycle left unsecured on the front porch between 1 am. and 2 am.

July 20th, 2008:

Police arrested Kelly A. Reilly, 44 years old of 7151 4th Section Rd., Sweden, on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor, as well as other traffic offenses.  Reilly was issued traffic summonses returnable to the Sweden Town Court.

July 21st, 2008:

A South Avenue resident reported Identity Theft when she discovered her social security number had been used fraudulently on a job application.  The case was referred to the national identity theft hotline for follow-up.

A Holley Street resident reported receiving harassing telephone calls from a known suspect.  The investigation is continuing.

July 22nd, 2008:

A life-size mule figuring symbolic of the Erie Canalway was mounted on a concrete pedestal on the north side of Main Street at the Erie Canal Towpath by the Village.  On this date the figurine was damaged in an amount exceeding $1,600.  Police investigated the incident and two individuals, one adult and one juvenile, were charged with Criminal Mischief, 3rd Degree, a Felony.  Andrew J. Kincaid, 18 years old of 713 Bass Run Lane, Hamlin, was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Sweden Town Court.

July 24th, 2008:

A Havenwood Drive resident reported theft of a Garmin GPS unit from an unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway overnight.

Police arrested Jackie F. Chen, 44 years old of 68 Spring Street, Brockport, on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, a Felony, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, 1st Degree, also a Felony, as well as other traffic offenses.  Chen was arraigned in the Sweden Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of bail.

July 26th, 2008:

A Student Lane resident reported theft of an iPod, purse, and credit cards, from an unlocked vehicle overnight.

A North Main Street (Villager Apartments) resident reported theft of a license plate from his vehicle occurring sometime overnight.

A second Villager Apartments resident reported theft of a license plate from his vehicle sometime overnight.

A Park Avenue resident reported theft of coinage from within the house totaling approximately $150, the theft occurring sometime over the past month.

July 27th, 2008:

Police arrested Joseph M. Connolly, 26 years old of 15 Baxter St., Buffalo, on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor, as well as other traffic offenses.  Connolly was issued traffic summonses returnable to the Sweden Town Court.

July 28th, 2008:

A Fayette Street resident reported theft of a bicycle that was parked behind the Sweden Town Hall between 6:35 and 6:45 p.m. this date.

July 30th, 2008:

Police arrested Eric S. Brooks, 23 years old of 10450 SW 115th St., Miami, FL., on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, a Misdemeanor, as well as other traffic offenses.  Brooks was issued traffic summonses returnable to the Sweden Town Court.

July 31st, 2008:

A Frazier Street resident reported damage done to a decorative windmill in the back yard sometime overnight.

A Barry Street resident reported damage done to a picket fence sometime overnight.

A State Street resident reported damage done to a storm window sometime overnight.

A Spring Street resident reported damage done to a picket fence sometime overnight.

A State Street resident reported damage done to a garden fence and numerous plants sometime overnight.

A Kimberlin Drive resident reported damage done to a pane glass window on the house, and damage done to a vehicle parked in the driveway, sometime during the overnight hours.

August 1st, 2008:

A delivery truck parked behind a Main Street business at about 2 p.m. suffered loss of approximately $3,000 cash when an unknown suspect entered the unlocked vehicle and took a bundle of money left on the front seat.

August 3rd, 2008:

Police arrested Richard J. Steubing, 22 years old of 894 Whittier Rd., Sweden, on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of Marijuana 4th Degree, both Misdemeanors, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 4th Degree, a Felony.  Steubing was arraigned in the Sweden Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail in lieu of bail.

A Market Street resident reported theft of a mountain bicycle from the porch sometime between 10 am. and 11:30 am.

 

The Brockport Police responded to 740 calls for service between July 14th and August 3rd, 2008, 9410 calls to date.

August 4th through August 10th, 2008

August 7th, 2008:

Police arrested David R. Diaz, 25 years old of 25 Clinton St., Apt. 4, Brockport, on charges of Criminal Sale of Marijuana, 5th Degree, a Misdemeanor.  Diaz was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Sweden Town Court.

Police arrested Freddie L. Simmons, 44 years old of 35 Garden Park Apartments, Albion, on charges of Criminal Mischief, 3rd Degree, a Felony, after it is alleged Simmons scratched the side of a car belonging to a former acquaintance, then poured sugar in the gasoline tank.  Simmons was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Sweden Town Court.

August 8th, 2008:

A Holley Street resident reported theft of a Roadmaster mountain bicycle, color blue, from his front porch between 1 am. and 8:30 am.

August 9th, 2008:

Police arrested Adam R. Fields, 26 years old of 9694 W. Ridge Rd., Clarkson, on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, a Felony, as well as other traffic offenses.  Fields was issued traffic summonses returnable to the Sweden Town Court.

A maroon minivan was observed striking the Erie Canal Bridge warning gate on Main Street near Clinton Street at about 9:40 p.m.  The vehicle had passed barricades blocking entrance to Main Street during the Arts Festival, then struck the warning gate, which was in the down position, causing damage.  The vehicle has not been located, and the investigation is continuing.

There were no reported thefts or damage stemming from the Brockport Arts Festival this year.  Special thanks to the members of SPARTAC, citizens on Main Street, and the officers who worked through the night providing for the security of the venue, for their successful efforts.
